I'm Laura, and while this is our family blog, I'm the one whose writing you see. In August of 2005 we found out I was pregnant! I embraced this new life and anxiously awaited the crowning moment when we would come together as a family. While I waited, I read a lot, found my community, and acquired ideas and tools to guide me into becoming truly the parent I want to be. I strongly believe in mother-empowered birth, attachment parenting, full-term breastfeeding, child led development, elimination communication, and a commitment to natural family living. This is reflected in both the blog entries as well as my wishlist, which is a good place to get reading suggestions as well as see what I want!
Here is a list of links if you are curious about any of the aspects of my parenting style.
- Scott Noelle's "Enjoy Parenting"
Scott Noelle provides insight in small, easily digestible e-mails called "Daily Groove." They serve as a reminder of ways to truly enjoy parenting!
- Bornfree!
Laura Shanley's Unassisted Homebirth site which inspired me to do birth my way. While I wasn't unassisted, the collection of birth stories helped me get the courage and personal strength to take charge of Madeline and my birth experience.
- Kellymom.com
The essential 24hr resource for any breastfeeding mother.
- Mothering
Based on the popular magazine for natural-minded mothers, this site hosts a massive global community of like-minded parents. Full of acronyms like AP (attachment parenting) and GD (gentle discipline), this is a place one may want to lurk for a week or two before jumping in! The support and information one can gain from the community is immeasurable. I attribute much of my ability to parent the way I feel is best to this community and the resources it has led me to.
- Zenana Spa
This is where I work! I watch kids in the drop-in daycare while their mamas get the TLC they need so they can come back refreshed and ready to be at the top of their game! The philosophy of the care center as well as the classes that are held here are right in line with how I want to raise Madeline. I'm excited to be working here, as it gives me the practice and extra insight I need for the years to come.
