My trade is Web Design. While I am currently not doing it full time, I do take jobs here and there. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Multimedia and Web Design at The Art Institute of Portland in June of 2005. Since then I have learned a lot about not only design but how to handle several web frameworks. While I don't code in PHP, I know how to work with it within Smarty and other frameworks, including my own blog. I use YUI Grids to keep sites compliant with all browsers, and all design is done in CSS. It is very important to have a well organized website so changes can be made smoothly and easily.
- Integrative Body is a website promoting Ricardo Saldia's Rolfing and Biofeedback services, which I highly recommend. I designed and implemented this site with a few things in mind: Ricardo loves blue and requested a prominent spiral, and the site needs to be able to grow and change with his practice.
- Blue Moon Fiber Arts artfully dyes high quality yarn for your sock and other knitting pleasure. I created the design for this site, and since I was busy with my new baby, they hired someone else to implement their shopping cart. The design was based on the owner's love for Art Nouveau and a need for the colors of the yarn to be the focus of the site.
- Alameda Brewhouse requested a site that was light on the images (for their friends on dial-up) and had editable menus from an administrative interface. I placed the large beer glass on the left for high graphical impact, while the rest of the site uses very little images. They brew very good beer.
In addition to designing whole sites, I have also taken the occasional job of integrating a design into a pre-existing site.
- Rick Hamell wanted a nice design to tie in to several things: his gallery, his blog, and his forum. They are all on different software so the pages had to be adapted seperately. Additionally he needed some basic pages to put other information on. For this low-budget project, I found a design on OSWD.org and modified it for his needs. He is quite happy with the results.
- Panjo capes instantly turn kids into superheroes, wizards, or whatever they want to be! I am currently polishing the look of Ellie's site while also making use of the Gallery2.0 software that came with her hosting package.
